Faith, even when profound, is never complete. It has to be endlessly sustained or, at least, preserved from destruction. I was dedicated and famous, I had my tomb in the Père-Lachaise cemetery - perhaps even in the Pantheon, my avenue in Paris, my squares and places in the provinces and abroad: yet, in the very heart of my optimism, I retained an invisible and nameless suspicion of my own lack of substance.
